With the onset of the new summer season fast approaching we thought you might to know a little bit more about us. Tara is the force behind Festival Flags and we’ve had a bit of a sit down to see what she has to say:
Q: How and why did you first get interested in creating flags for festivals and events?
My interest in flags has been with me a long time.
I have always loved love colour and being creative and as a child remember playing with kites and being mesmerised by the beauty of the colours flying in the wind. In my late teens I would go to festivals with the rest and, though there was not many doing it at the time, a feathered flag installation at Glastonbury caught my eye and I was hooked!
Q: In the 8 years that you have been doing flags for events and festivals how has the industry changed?
The Festival and Event scene has changed massively – flags and bunting have become a must for events of all kinds, where as before it was only the very large festivals like Glastonbury that had them. People going to events and festivals these days expect a fully immersive experience – they don’t want to just be looking at the stage but want to feel that they in and part of the occasion.
Q: Why is it important to have flags for events and festivals?
For the same reasons mentioned above really. Flags and other installations give a festive party feeling, add to the atmosphere and look amazing. You only need to look at our flags in place (such as the image below) to see what they bring to the event.
Q What inspires your flag designs?
For me the main inspirations are both colour and nature. Colour is important; knowing what goes with what and how to set up a co-ordinated display. Nature comes in when you see the flags in their setting surrounded by fields and trees and blowing in the wind.
Q: What is your own personal favourite flag?
Wow – I have so many! The blue flags were the first flags that got me noticed in the events world, I love them because they represent the sea and the sky to me, I call them “life”. The green flags I call Buddha they represent the budding of new leaves and flowers.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment I am making Dragonfly flags with lights which I’m really excited about and beautiful flags for weddings, and bunting and….should I go on? I have a lot of things in the pipeline!
Q: What makes your festival flags stand out more than others?
They are the most beautiful of course! They are very large, we have loads of design and we offer a range of packages to suit different clients. Also we have been around for a long time – we are the original, the real thing!
Q: What do you enjoy the most about Festival Flags?
For me the best bit is creating the flags, coming up with the design – it;’s always exciting watching a new range of flags come together.
Q: What is the best compliment you have ever received for your work?
That’s a tricky one! The flags go down really well everywhere and the feedback I get is always extremely positive… I remember one!; “They are beautiful and make this place come alive” Might not be the most original compliment out there – but it describes exactly how I feel about them too! There are loads more like this on the testimonials page of my site.
